The experience - who we help
The Good Child Foundation's students are from rural Thai backgrounds. About 70 per cent of our students’ parents are rubber plantation workers. The remainder are farm labourers and construction workers. A good education is the best chance for our students to escape a life struggling to survive on a low income.
For parents of special needs children life is especially harsh. Everyone in the family must work as there is no welfare state to support them in Thailand. If schools do not accept their children, the only other option they have is to send their child to a residential home far away from the family home. No parent wishes to do this, and The Good Child Foundation is more than willing to educate these children from the age of 3 to 18 years of age. This gives the parents the opportunity to work and keep their children and family together.
