Music helps us to communicate

Music helps us to reach across nations and cultures to communicate with one another.

Involvement in music is considered to be a fundamental component of human culture and behaviour. At The Good Child Foundation School we use songs sung in the English language to improve our students understanding of the language and also their literacy skills. According to many scholars the use of songs are among the best ways to teach a foreign language. Singing builds confidence. It allows students to enjoy a degree of fluency before they have achieved it in speaking. Songs can be incorporated to all language skills by listening, reading, writing and speaking.

We teach a range of songs from nursery rhymes to children's songs, folk and modern day rock and pop. The Irish folk songs are a special part of our teaching as these songs help us teach the history, folklore and culture of Ireland. News of the talents of our pupils singing folk songs in the English language has reached across many seas. We already have a number of supporters in the USA, England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Spain and Australia – and we are welcoming more each day.
